Sat Feb 01 03:12:55 UTC 2025: ## Dense Fog Disrupts Delhi Flights After Unusually Warm January

**New Delhi, India** – Dense fog blanketed Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Saturday morning, causing significant flight delays at Indira Gandhi International Airport. IndiGo Airlines issued an advisory warning passengers of schedule disruptions and urging them to plan accordingly. FlightRadar24 reported an average departure delay of 26 minutes as of 8:30 am, when the temperature was a chilly 11.3 degrees Celsius.

The fog comes on the heels of an exceptionally warm January for Delhi. Friday saw a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, the warmest January day since 2019. The month’s average maximum temperature of 21.1 degrees Celsius was also significantly above the long-term average of 20.1 degrees Celsius, marking Delhi’s warmest January in four years. Meteorologists attribute this unusual warmth to the lack of strong western disturbances, which typically bring rain and cooler temperatures.

The dense fog also impacted other parts of northern India, including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu and Kashmir, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Air quality in Delhi is expected to remain in the “very poor” category until February 3rd, with only slight improvement forecast thereafter.
