Sat Feb 01 07:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Eight Maoists Killed in Chhattisgarh Encounter

**Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, February 1, 2025** – Eight Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Gangalur police station area of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, on Saturday. Security forces reported that the death toll may rise further as a combing operation continues in the area.

The encounter began after security forces received intelligence about a Maoist gathering early Saturday morning. During a subsequent combing operation, the security forces engaged the Maoists in a fierce gun battle. Eight Maoists were confirmed dead, but officials indicated that more casualties are suspected.

This latest encounter is part of an ongoing campaign by Indian security forces to suppress Maoist activity in the region. Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently visited Chhattisgarh and has previously stated a goal to eliminate Maoists nationwide by March 2026. While Maoist influence has significantly decreased across the country, Chhattisgarh’s Dandakaranya region remains a stronghold. The government continues to encourage Maoists to surrender and reintegrate into society. Recent events include the surrender of several Maoists in Maharashtra and the death of senior Maoist leader, Chalapati, in a recent encounter.
