**New Delhi, [Date]** – Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today unveiled India’s 2025-26 Union Budget, a plan designed to propel the nation towards its “Viksit Bharat” (developed India) goal. The budget prioritizes growth in agriculture, MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises), investment, and exports.
The budget includes a mix of tax cuts and increases, impacting the prices of various goods. Consumers will see lower prices on several items, including lithium-ion batteries, frozen fish, leather goods (belts, shoes, jackets), and 36 life-saving medicines (following customs duty exemptions). Reductions also apply to carrier grade internet switches, synthetic flavouring essences, marine products, raw materials for shipbuilding, and cobalt products. Importantly, customs duty on frozen fish paste (surimi) has been slashed from 30% to 5%.
However, some goods will become more expensive. Increased duties or new taxes will affect the prices of interactive flat panel displays and knitted fabrics.
The budget’s overall aim is to accelerate economic growth and solidify India’s position on the global stage.
