**New Delhi** – The Indian government unveiled a significant boost to both its AI infrastructure and medical education sector in the Union Budget 2025 presented today. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the establishment of Centres of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (AI), backed by a Rs 500 crore investment. One such centre will receive Rs 100 crore in funding. This initiative comes in response to the Economic Survey 2024-25, which highlighted the potential impact of AI on India’s workforce, particularly in low-skill jobs. The survey emphasized the need for robust institutions to help workers adapt to the changing job market.

Furthermore, the budget includes the addition of 75,000 new medical seats over the next five years. This builds upon a previous decade’s expansion that saw a 100% increase in undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats, totaling 1.1 lakh additional seats. An immediate increase of 10,000 medical seats is planned for next year. The expansion aims to address the growing healthcare needs of the nation. The government’s commitment to both technological advancement through AI and human capital development in the medical field signifies a multifaceted approach to future challenges.
