**NEW DELHI, February 1, 2025** – Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced today a plan to transform the Indian postal service into a large public logistics organization. This initiative, unveiled during the presentation of the Union Budget 2025, aims to serve a broad range of users, including women entrepreneurs, small businesses (Vishwakarmas), self-help groups, and large corporations.
The Minister highlighted the vast network of post offices, supported by the Indian Post Payments Bank and over 240,000 postal workers (dak sevaks), as a key catalyst for rural economic growth. This marks Ms. Sitharaman’s eighth budget presentation, drawing her closer to the record of ten budgets presented by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai.
