Sat Feb 01 08:20:00 IST 2025: ## Basant Panchami 2025: Goddess Saraswati Celebrated on February 2nd

**NEW DELHI** – Hindus across India will celebrate Basant Panchami, the festival dedicated to the goddess Saraswati, on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025. This auspicious day, also known as Vasant Panchami and Rishi Panchami, marks the appearance of the goddess of knowledge, music, and arts.

According to the Hindu calendar, Basant Panchami falls on the fifth day of the bright fortnight in the month of Magh. This year, the Panchami Tithi begins at 9:14 AM on February 2nd and ends at 6:52 AM on February 3rd. The most auspicious time for worship is between 7:09 AM and 12:35 PM on February 2nd, offering a five-hour, 26-minute window for devotees.

Devotees observe the day with special prayers and offerings to Goddess Saraswati, seeking blessings for academic pursuits, artistic endeavors, and overall prosperity. Traditional practices include wearing yellow, white, or light-colored clothes, offering white sandalwood and yellow/white flowers, and chanting the mantra “Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah.” Prasad (offerings) typically includes mishri (sugar candy), yogurt, and sweets, particularly saffron-infused kheer (rice pudding).

This year’s Basant Panchami is considered an “abujh muhurat,” an auspicious time where no specific timings are needed for undertaking auspicious activities. Many believe performing acts of charity, especially donating educational materials, brings added blessings. Observing one’s palms upon waking is also believed to bring good fortune.
