Sat Feb 01 05:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Gurugram Cracks Down on Unpaid Traffic Fines: Vehicles Seized After 90 Days
**GURUGRAM, INDIA –** A new strict traffic enforcement policy has been implemented in Gurugram, Haryana, starting Thursday. According to an order issued by the traffic police, vehicles with unpaid traffic fines will be impounded after 90 days.
DCP Traffic Virender Vij announced the new measure following a meeting with traffic officials. He stated that all officers will inform the public that traffic violation fines must be paid within 90 days of issuance. Failure to do so will result in vehicle seizure under Section 167(8) of the Motor Vehicles Act during subsequent vehicle checks.
A final deadline of February 10, 2025, has been set for the payment of all outstanding traffic fines. Citizens are urged to settle their dues before this date.
This stricter enforcement follows a similar crackdown in Delhi, where traffic police issued 164,000 challans (fines) totaling ₹164 crore (approximately $20 million USD) between October 1st and November 22nd for vehicles lacking valid Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC). The enforcement intensified with the implementation of GRAP-4 (likely referring to a pollution control measure), leading to the seizure of 6,531 older vehicles and the turning back of 13,762 trucks at Delhi’s borders.
