**Chennai, January 31, 2025** – Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are scheduled to visit Chennai this Friday, attending events in Muttukadu and Mamallapuram. In anticipation of their visit, a comprehensive drone ban has been implemented across Greater Chennai Police limits.
The ban, effective from January 26th to February 23rd, prohibits the use of drones, remote-controlled aircraft, and paragliders. This measure, enacted under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, designates a large area encompassing Chennai Airport, Raj Bhavan, and the VVIP travel routes as a “Red Zone.” Exceptions will be made only for government-authorized operations. The police cited security concerns as the reason for the restrictions.
