**Shivamogga, Karnataka, January 31, 2025** – A 40-year-old male elephant was discovered dead near Hanabalu in the Sakaleshpura forest range on Friday. Preliminary investigations suggest the tusker died from injuries sustained in a fight with another elephant.
Forest officials, including Deputy Conservator of Forests Sourabh Kumar, conducted a post-mortem examination and a metal detector scan. While initial findings indicate the death was due to natural causes, samples have been collected for further analysis. The elephant, which had one intact tusk, is believed to have died several days before its discovery.
