Thu Jan 30 06:03:38 UTC 2025: ## Trump Appeals Hush Money Conviction

**New York, NY –** President Donald Trump’s legal team has formally filed an appeal against his conviction on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The appeal, filed Wednesday, challenges both the May 2024 guilty verdict and the January 2025 sentence of unconditional discharge handed down by Justice Juan Merchan. While the sentence itself resulted in no jail time or further punishment, the conviction remains on Trump’s record.

The case stemmed from a $130,000 payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to suppress information about an alleged sexual encounter with Trump before the 2016 election. Trump, the first U.S. president to be criminally convicted, maintains his innocence, arguing the case was politically motivated by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Trump’s lawyer, Robert Giuffra, stated the case sets a “dangerous precedent” and expects it to be dismissed on appeal. Giuffra, a former attorney general candidate in the Trump administration, will lead the appeal process, with a six-month deadline to submit a detailed legal brief. The Trump legal team includes Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, who have since been appointed to senior Justice Department positions. A spokesperson for DA Bragg’s office has yet to comment.
