**Las Vegas, NV** – Ryan Whyte Maloney, a former contestant on NBC’s *The Voice*, died by suicide on Tuesday, January 28th, at the age of 44. The Clark County Coroner’s office confirmed the manner of death.
Maloney, who had a weekend residency at Blake Shelton’s Ole Red bar in Las Vegas, was involved in an argument with his fiancée earlier that evening. According to a police report, the argument escalated after a dispute over a jacket, leading Maloney to retrieve a gun from the car’s glove compartment and exit the vehicle. A gunshot was heard, followed by a second, after which his fiancée discovered him deceased.
The police report indicates that Maloney had a history of suicidal thoughts and self-harm. He had performed at the New York-New York Hotel and Casino earlier in the evening.
Maloney gained recognition through his appearance on season six of *The Voice* in 2014, impressing all four judges with his audition. He went on to become a finalist on Shelton’s team, and continued to pursue a successful music career, releasing a solo album and performing with numerous high-profile artists, including Tim McGraw, Morgan Wallen, and Ed Sheeran.
