Thu Jan 30 19:03:48 UTC 2025: ## Top Kashmir Police Official Transferred to Delhi

**Srinagar, January 31, 2025** – Vijay Kumar, the Additional Director General of Police in Jammu and Kashmir, known for his high-profile role in the region since the abrogation of Article 370, has been transferred to Delhi. The transfer, announced Thursday, is part of a wider reshuffle involving four IPS officers. Kumar, a 1997 batch AGMUT cadre officer, will assume a new assignment within the Delhi segment of the cadre.

Kumar’s tenure in Kashmir was marked by a significant crackdown on militancy. He oversaw the killing of several top militant commanders and implemented controversial policies, including denying militants burial in their home villages to discourage glorification of militancy. He also masterminded the discreet burial of separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. His actions earned him a gallantry medal on Republic Day 2025 for preventing a terror attack on the Amarnath Yatra. He also played a key role in exposing a nexus between a Hizbul Mujahideen operative and a J&K Police Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Kumar’s transfer follows a period of significant changes in Kashmir’s security landscape. His approach, which sometimes clashed with that of former J&K DGP R.R. Swain, focused on a hardline stance against militancy. The transfer has been met with varying reactions, with some praising his achievements and others criticizing his methods. The reshuffle also included the transfer of Anand Jain, another ADGP, who has been posted as ADGP Armed, J&K. Bhim Sen Tuti will replace Jain as IGP of the Jammu Zone.
