Fri Jan 31 03:56:00 UTC 2025: **Telangana Youth Achieve Defence Dreams, Highlighting Sainik School Success**

HYDERABAD, January 31, 2025 – The inspiring story of Ramadugu Siddhartha, an 18-year-old from a humble washerman family in Telangana, who secured admission to the prestigious National Defence Academy (NDA), is highlighting the transformative impact of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential (TSWR) Sainik School in Rukmapur. Siddhartha’s achievement, celebrated by his village and lauded by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, underscores the school’s role in empowering rural youth to pursue careers in the armed forces.

Siddhartha’s journey, marked by determination and hard work, despite facing financial hardship and limited access to resources, serves as a beacon of hope for other aspiring cadets. His success follows that of two previous NDA cadets from the same Sainik School, established in 2018. The school’s holistic approach, combining academic excellence with rigorous physical training and discipline, is producing impressive results, with several students also gaining admission to IITs and Azim Premji University.

However, Siddhartha’s success is not an isolated case. The small village of Kuchoor in Mahabubnagar district boasts over 80 residents serving in the military, a testament to the strong tradition of national service within the community. This dedication is mirrored across Telangana, where thousands of young people join the armed forces each year.

Despite this enthusiasm, officials acknowledge the need for better guidance and support for aspiring candidates, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Colonel P. Ramesh Kumar, director of the Department of Sainik Welfare, advocates for specialized training camps to prepare candidates for the rigorous selection process. He also highlights the State government’s scholarship program for NDA aspirants.

Various initiatives, including camps organized by former MLAs and voluntary organizations, are already working to inspire and train young people. However, experts emphasize the importance of fostering patriotic values from a young age through programs like the National Cadet Corps and the establishment of more Sainik Schools in Telangana, currently lacking a centrally-sponsored institution. Concerns remain regarding recent changes in recruitment policies and the need for improved support for retired armed personnel.
