**Mumbai, January 31, 2025** – Mumbai Police announced today that facial recognition technology has confirmed the identity of the man arrested for the stabbing of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan. Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, arrested three days after the January 16th attack, has been positively identified through a facial recognition match with CCTV footage from the scene.
Police say Shehzad allegedly broke into Mr. Khan’s apartment and stabbed him six times before escaping. He was apprehended in Thane and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on Wednesday. Mr. Khan, who underwent two surgeries at Lilavati Hospital following the attack, was discharged on January 21st.
Authorities credit facial recognition technology with a significant role in solving the case. While Shehzad’s father claims his son is being framed and plans to contact the Bangladesh government and Indian High Commission, the police stand by their findings.
