Fri Jan 31 10:32:28 UTC 2025: ## President’s Office Condemns Sonia Gandhi’s Remarks

**New Delhi, January 31, 2025** – The Rashtrapati Bhavan has issued a strong rebuke of comments allegedly made by former Congress President Sonia Gandhi regarding President Droupadi Murmu’s address to Parliament. A video circulating on social media purportedly shows Ms. Gandhi describing the President as “tired” and “a poor thing.”

Ajay Kumar Singh, Press Secretary to the President, called the remarks “in poor taste, unfortunate, and entirely avoidable,” stating that President Murmu was not tired at any point during her address. The statement further suggested that Ms. Gandhi may have misinterpreted the President’s speech due to unfamiliarity with Hindi idioms.

BJP IT department head Amit Malviya criticized Ms. Gandhi’s comments on X (formerly Twitter), describing them as demeaning to the high office and reflective of a “feudal mindset.” He further highlighted the alleged lack of a courtesy visit from Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi to the President. Malviya accused the Congress party of lacking respect for the Constitution and marginalized communities.

The incident occurred on the first day of the Parliament’s Budget Session, following President Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of both Houses. The Rashtrapati Bhavan’s statement firmly rejects the portrayal of President Murmu’s condition as depicted in the circulating video.
