**New Delhi** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today strongly criticized Congress leader Sonia Gandhi for her comments describing President Droupadi Murmu as a “poor thing” following the President’s address to Parliament. The Rashtrapati Bhavan also released a statement condemning the remarks as “unfortunate and entirely avoidable,” adding that they were in “poor taste” and hurt the dignity of the President’s office.
Sonia Gandhi’s comments, made in the presence of her children Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, reportedly characterized the President as tired and her speech as boring. Rahul Gandhi was overheard questioning his mother’s assessment of the speech.
Addressing an election rally in Delhi, PM Modi accused the Congress family of displaying arrogance and insulting not only the President but also the poor and tribal communities she represents. He further criticized the Congress and AAP, accusing them of arrogance and a disconnect from the concerns of ordinary citizens.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan’s statement categorically denied that President Murmu was tired during her address, emphasizing her dedication to speaking for marginalized communities. The statement suggested the Congress leaders may have misunderstood the President’s speech due to unfamiliarity with Hindi. However, the office reiterated that the comments remain unacceptable. The incident has sparked significant political controversy.
