**WASHINGTON, D.C. –** The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has temporarily suspended all special events and programs celebrating diversity, including those commemorating Juneteenth, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Pride Month, according to an internal memo obtained by ABC News. The move follows President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders targeting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
The memo, dated January 28th, 2025, states that the pause affects observances for numerous holidays and heritage months, including Black History Month (which begins this Saturday), Women’s History Month, and Hispanic Heritage Month. While the memo initially listed Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Juneteenth among the suspended events, a DIA spokesperson clarified that these will remain federal holidays.
The agency is currently working with the Department of Defense to fully comply with the President’s executive orders, according to Lt. Cmdr. Seth Clarke, a DIA spokesman. He stated that internal guidance will be updated as further directives are received.
The pause also extends to Agency Resource Groups and employee networking groups, effectively halting their activities until further notice. The White House has previously stated that DEI initiatives foster “prejudicial hostility” and exacerbate conflict. The suspension of these events has sparked debate, coming at a time when the nation is preparing to observe Black History Month.
