**New Delhi, January 31, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 98th All India Marathi Literature Convention (Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan) in New Delhi from February 21st to 23rd. This marks the first time the convention has been held in the national capital since the formation of Maharashtra in 1960.
The announcement was made by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, highlighting the event’s historical significance. The last time Delhi hosted the convention was in 1954. This year’s event will be presided over by Dr. Tara Bhawalkar, only the sixth woman to hold this position in the convention’s 128-year history.
The three-day convention, expected to draw over 5,000 delegates, will be held at Talkatora Stadium, temporarily renamed “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sahitya Nagari” for the occasion. The event will feature sessions on diverse topics, including the digital evolution of Marathi literature and the preservation of folk arts, alongside exhibitions and performances showcasing Maharashtra’s rich artistic heritage.
Chief Minister Fadnavis drew parallels between the 1954 and 2025 conventions, emphasizing the event’s role in fostering unity and celebrating India’s cultural diversity. The convention will pay tribute to prominent figures like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Lokmanya Tilak, and Yashwantrao Chavan through naming various parts of the venue after them.
