Thu Jan 30 19:12:21 UTC 2025: ## Aussie Debutant Inglis Blasts Fastest-Ever Test Century for Australia

**Galle, Sri Lanka:** Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis etched his name into cricket history on Thursday, smashing the fastest century by an Australian on Test debut during the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. His electrifying innings of 102 runs off just 94 balls (10 fours, 1 six) eclipsed the previous Australian record and ranks as the second-fastest Test century on debut overall.

Inglis, already a seasoned player in ODI and T20I cricket, entered the match at number five and immediately set the Sri Lankan bowlers on the defensive. He reached his half-century in 51 balls and his century in 90, shattering the previous Australian record. Only India’s Shikhar Dhawan (87 balls in 2013) has achieved a faster Test century on debut. Inglis’s strike rate of 108.51 also surpasses Dhawan’s.

Australia dominated the first two days of the match. Usman Khawaja scored a double century (232), and Steve Smith reached 10,000 Test runs. Inglis’s blistering knock, along with contributions from other Australian batsmen, propelled Australia to a massive 654/6 declared – their highest-ever score in Asia. Sri Lanka ended day two at 44/3 in response.
