**BEIRUT, Lebanon** – Israel’s ongoing military operations in southern Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of at least 83 Lebanese civilians since November 27th, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. This brings the total death toll from the October 8th conflict to at least 3,961, with over 16,520 injured. The escalating violence follows Israel’s repeated breaches of a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, initially set to expire on January 26th and subsequently extended to February 18th.
Israel claims its attacks target Hezbollah infrastructure used for weapons development and smuggling, citing a failure by the Lebanese army to fully deploy in the south as stipulated in the agreement. However, Israel’s refusal to withdraw its troops has led to widespread condemnation.
This week alone, at least 24 civilians were killed as residents attempted to return to their homes in southern Lebanon, many of which are now in ruins. Reports of Israeli drone attacks and shelling in towns such as Taybeh, Kfar Kila, and Majdal Selem highlight the ongoing and intensified conflict. At least 228 people have been injured as displaced Lebanese try to reclaim their lives amidst the ongoing violence.
The situation remains highly volatile, with the continued Israeli military presence and attacks fueling further instability and humanitarian crisis in southern Lebanon. International pressure to achieve a lasting ceasefire and address the humanitarian needs of the Lebanese population is mounting.
