Thu Jan 30 18:51:40 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Fishermen Attacks Prompt Call for PM-Led Committee
**New Delhi, January 31, 2025** – Following a series of attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy, DMK leader T.R. Baalu is urging the Indian government to establish a high-level committee, headed by the Prime Minister, to address the issue with their Sri Lankan counterparts. Mr. Baalu, speaking after an all-party meeting in Delhi, stated that previous diplomatic efforts at the ministerial level have been unsuccessful in stopping the ongoing attacks.
The DMK is also demanding parliamentary discussion on several other matters concerning Tamil Nadu during the upcoming Budget session, including the UGC’s higher education guidelines, state funding, disaster relief allocations, and a caste census. Furthermore, the party plans to raise concerns about the conduct of Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, calling for his removal.
Echoing these concerns, Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan highlighted the increased frequency of attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen in recent months and emphasized the need for urgent action. He also called for the government to ensure smaller parties have sufficient time to participate in the Budget session discussions.
