Fri Jan 31 17:25:57 UTC 2025: ## Madras High Court Orders Police Probe into Fake Aadhaar Property Fraud

**Chennai, January 31, 2025** – The Madras High Court has ordered a police investigation into a property registration fraud involving four fake Aadhaar cards. The court directed the Thiruporur Sub-Registrar in Chengalpattu district to file a complaint after a petition revealed the fraudulent registration of documents related to a property in 2021.

Justice P.T. Asha, overseeing the case, confirmed that the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) verified that all four Aadhaar numbers used were fake and not registered in their database. The judge ordered the Sub-Registrar to record the fraudulent registration in official records and to refrain from registering any future documents based on these fraudulent documents.

The fraudulent registration was discovered by C. Subbulakshmi, who, along with her son, learned of a settlement deed and power of attorney registered on their property without their knowledge. The property, originally purchased by Subbulakshmi’s husband in 1973, had been legitimately partitioned between her and her son in 2000.

The court will monitor the police investigation and issue further directions. The case highlights a significant vulnerability in using Aadhaar for property registration and underscores the need for robust verification processes to prevent such fraud.
