**Udupi, January 31, 2025:** Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has called on the Mines and Geology Department to ensure the timely availability of affordable sand and stone to meet the construction needs of the rapidly developing Udupi district. Speaking at the inauguration of the new Khanija Bhavana building in Doddanagudde, Mr. Suvarna emphasized the critical role of readily available construction materials in facilitating timely development projects. The ₹2 crore building houses the offices of the department’s senior geologist and other staff.
Udupi Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari noted that the district currently has 167 mining licenses for various materials, including sand, clay, and laterite stone, and 45 functional stone crushing units. She highlighted the need for a dedicated facility, such as the new Khanija Bhavana, to effectively manage these operations. The inauguration was attended by senior geologists and other officials.
