**Galle, Sri Lanka:** Australia’s Josh Inglis smashed the second-fastest Test century on debut, powering his team to a commanding position in the first Test against Sri Lanka. Inglis reached his ton in a mere 90 balls, a feat only bettered by Shikhar Dhawan’s 87-ball century for India in 2013. His innings, which included ten fours and a six, featured a blistering half-century in just 51 balls and a strike rate of 108.51 – the highest ever for a Test debutant.
Inglis’s explosive knock was ultimately cut short by Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya, who caught him out for 102. Despite his dismissal, Inglis’s contribution was instrumental in Australia’s declaration at a massive 654/6. Sri Lanka, in reply, struggled early, losing three wickets for 44 runs.
Speaking after his record-breaking innings, Inglis stated that the achievement hadn’t fully sunk in yet, calling it a “really special day.” He also noted the support of his family, who made a special trip to witness his historic debut.
