Fri Jan 31 16:06:15 UTC 2025: ## Bengaluru Metro Orange Line to Get Extension to Tavarekere

**Bengaluru, January 31, 2025** – Responding to long-standing resident demands, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has ordered Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for extending Namma Metro’s Orange Line (Phase 3) from Kadabagere to Tavarekere village.

The extension, which will address the lack of public transport in rapidly developing areas like Seegehalli Gate and Channenahalli, is seen as crucial for improving commute times and reducing reliance on private vehicles. Residents cite significant growth and real estate development in the area, highlighting the need for improved connectivity, especially for those working in industrial areas like Peenya.

Yeshwantpur MLA S.T. Somashekar, who had previously written to Mr. Shivakumar requesting the extension, welcomed the decision. A senior BMRCL official confirmed the directive, stating that the project aligns with the 2020 Comprehensive Mobility Plan for Bengaluru.

Namma Metro’s Phase 3, approved in 2024 at a cost of ₹15,611 crore, includes two elevated corridors totaling 44.65 km. Upon completion, Bengaluru’s metro network will expand to 220.2 km. The Karnataka government will fund 80-85% of Phase 3, with the Union government covering the remainder.
