Fri Jan 31 04:40:00 IST 2025: ## Lions Bolster Coaching Staff with Experienced Passing Game Coordinator

**DETROIT, MI** – The Detroit Lions are adding a veteran presence to their coaching staff, hiring David Shaw as their new passing game coordinator. Shaw, 52, joins the team under newly appointed offensive coordinator John Morton, bringing a wealth of experience from both the college and NFL ranks.

Shaw, who most recently served as a senior personnel executive with the Denver Broncos, boasts an impressive resume. He spent 12 seasons as the head coach at Stanford University, compiling a 96-54 record and leading the Cardinal to two Rose Bowl victories. His NFL coaching experience includes a stint as the Baltimore Ravens’ receivers coach in 2005.

Shaw’s hiring comes as the Lions revamp their offensive coaching staff. The team’s previous passing game coordinator, Tanner Engstrand, is reportedly expected to join the New York Jets. The move reunites Shaw with Morton, who served as the Broncos’ pass game coordinator before joining Detroit. While the Lions’ offense under Morton isn’t expected to be revolutionary, Head Coach Dan Campbell has stressed preventing a significant downturn in performance.
