Fri Jan 31 17:05:02 UTC 2025: ## Congress to Protest Maha Kumbh Stampede During Budget Session
**New Delhi, January 31, 2025** – The Indian National Congress plans to protest the deaths at the Maha Kumbh stampede during the upcoming Budget session. The party’s parliamentary strategy group decided Friday to raise the issue before Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presents her speech. A party leader stated that if the matter isn’t addressed, Congress MPs will stage a brief walkout.
The meeting, held at Sonia Gandhi’s residence, also outlined other key issues for the upcoming debates. These include Home Minister Amit Shah’s previous comments on B.R. Ambedkar, the University Grants Commission’s guidelines on Vice-Chancellor appointments, the situation in Manipur, and the functioning of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf Amendment Bill.
The first part of the Budget session, which began February 1st, will conclude February 13th. The Congress’s actions mark a significant escalation of pressure on the government over the handling of the Maha Kumbh tragedy.
