**COIMBATORE, January 31, 2025** – A Mahila Court in Coimbatore today sentenced a 44-year-old man, Anandakumar, to five years of rigorous imprisonment for abetting the suicide of his wife in 2016. The court found Anandakumar guilty of repeatedly torturing his wife, Suji Lakshmi, 26, due to his alcohol addiction and demands for money. The incident occurred after a violent argument on November 24, 2016, following which Suji Lakshmi ended her life.
Anandakumar, a welder, was arrested by Saravanampatti police and subsequently charged. In a separate case heard on the same day, the court also sentenced 64-year-old Vikraman to five years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to murder his wife in October 2022. Special Public Prosecutor B. Jisha represented the prosecution in both cases.
