**COIMBATORE, INDIA (February 1, 2025)** – Coimbatore Corporation hosted a national workshop on January 31st to showcase its successful “Drink from Tap” (DFT) initiative, part of the AMRUT 2.0 scheme. Over 150 officials from 14 states attended to learn about Coimbatore’s model for providing 24/7 potable water directly to homes.
Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran highlighted the system’s advantages over conventional water supply, emphasizing the elimination of contamination risks through a pressurized system and the use of GIS-based mapping and hydraulic modelling. The initiative reduces reliance on water filtration and bottled water, allowing direct connections from the water main to kitchen taps and overhead tanks up to seven meters high.
The workshop included site visits to control centers and households to give attendees a practical understanding of the system’s implementation and operation. Coimbatore’s success serves as a template for other cities aiming to improve their water supply infrastructure and provide safe, reliable drinking water to residents.
