**KOCHI, January 31, 2025** – A three-day Matsya Mela (Seafood Festival) will be held at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi starting February 1st. The festival, celebrating CMFRI’s 78th Foundation Day, will feature a diverse range of seafood, locally produced farm products, and a drone exhibition.

The event, open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, will highlight a seafood fest showcasing local delicacies such as Kallummakaya (green mussel), oyster, octopus, and various fish and shrimp varieties. Stalls run by women’s self-help groups and seafood entrepreneurs will offer dishes featuring both marine and backwater seafood. A unique element will be the inclusion of traditional Lakshadweep dishes and depurated oysters available for live consumption.

Beyond seafood, the Matsya Mela will include a buyer-seller meet connecting farmers directly with consumers. Locally produced items such as millets, nutritional products, Pokkali rice varieties, native jaggery, traditional sweets, spices, pickles, honey, and processed fish products will be on display. Additionally, visitors can find pearl spot fingerlings, ornamental fishes, vegetable seedlings, medicinal plants, seeds, organic manures, and health and wellness products.
