Fri Jan 31 09:00:00 UTC 2025: ## Mackie Surprised by Evans’ Rumored “Avengers: Doomsday” Return; Evans Denies Involvement

**Los Angeles, CA** – Anthony Mackie, the new Captain America, has revealed his surprise at reports suggesting Chris Evans will reprise his role as Steve Rogers in 2026’s “Avengers: Doomsday.” In a new Esquire cover story, Mackie stated that he recently spoke to Evans, who denied any involvement in the upcoming film. Mackie learned of the rumors through his manager, after directly questioning Evans about his potential return.

However, Evans himself also spoke to Esquire, categorically denying the reports. While acknowledging the recurring rumors since “Avengers: Endgame,” Evans reiterated his intention to remain happily retired from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This echoes previous denials, similar to Andrew Garfield’s pre-“Spider-Man: No Way Home” statements.

The upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday,” directed by the Russo Brothers, will see the MCU debut of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Mackie, who will star as Captain America in the film, expressed confidence in the Russos’ ability to manage the large ensemble cast, stating he hopes the film avoids replicating the scale and scope of “Infinity War” and “Endgame.”

Mackie envisions a 10-year run as Captain America, encompassing future Avengers films, a potential solo Captain America movie, and possible crossovers with other franchises. He clarified that he does not intend to portray the character into his sixties.

“Captain America: Brave New World,” Mackie’s first film as the titular hero, will hit theaters on February 14th. The full Esquire interview with Mackie is available online.
