Fri Jan 31 13:00:00 UTC 2025: ## CenterPoint Energy Reaches Settlement, Potentially Lowering Houston Electricity Bills

**HOUSTON, TX –** CenterPoint Energy announced today a settlement agreement that could result in lower electricity bills for most Houston residents. The agreement, reached after negotiations with intervening parties in the company’s 2024 rate case, is pending approval from the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT).

CenterPoint had initially requested a rate increase for its Houston Electric business, a process that typically occurs every four years. However, the company withdrew its request following Hurricane Beryl, prioritizing its Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative instead. The subsequent negotiations led to the settlement, which offers a different outcome than the initially proposed increase.

While the details of the settlement haven’t been publicly disclosed, CenterPoint emphasized its commitment to providing reliable, safe, and affordable electricity while continuing vital investments in grid infrastructure improvements. The PUCT’s approval of the agreement is now awaited.
