**New Delhi, January 31, 2025** – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal was detained by Delhi Police on Thursday for dumping three truckloads of garbage outside the residence of former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal. The protest was staged in response to what Maliwal described as the city’s deteriorating sanitation conditions.
Maliwal, accompanied by supporters, collected the garbage from the Vikaspuri area, where she claimed streets were overwhelmed with waste, creating significant health hazards for residents. She then transported the refuse to Kejriwal’s residence on Ferozeshah Road and, with the help of others, dumped it outside his home.
Hundreds of women participated in the demonstration, holding placards reading “Smile, AAP is in Delhi.” Following the dumping of the garbage, police intervened, removing Maliwal from the scene and detaining her at the Parliament Street Police Station. She was later released and an FIR was filed against her under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code for violating prohibitory orders.
Maliwal stated that her actions were a direct protest against Kejriwal’s alleged failure to address Delhi’s sanitation crisis over the past decade. She criticized the state of the city’s roads, drains, and waste management. Prior to the protest, she posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing the garbage collection in Vikaspuri, highlighting the anger of local residents.
The incident comes amid existing tension between Maliwal and Kejriwal, stemming from an alleged incident of misconduct at Kejriwal’s residence last year, a matter currently before the courts.
