**Hyderabad:** The Telangana government is scrambling to rectify discrepancies in land records on its Dharani portal, revealing a significant issue stemming from the previous administration. An estimated 8 lakh acres of land have been erroneously registered in Dharani, exceeding the actual surveyed area under various base survey numbers. This has led to widespread disputes among farmers three years after the portal’s launch.
Revenue officials report that despite requests, landowners are failing to correct inflated land entries in their passbooks, leading to illegal receipt of Rythu Bandhu (farmer investment support) and crop loans. Conversely, farmers with under-registered land areas continue to pursue applications for corrections, causing further delays.
The government is now cross-referencing digital records with the 1956 Sethwar Resurvey Settlement Register (RSR) to identify and resolve discrepancies. This comparison has uncovered thousands of acres of discrepancies across 32 districts. For example, Kumram Bheem Asifabad district shows a 90,000-acre discrepancy, while discrepancies in Mulugu, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Rangareddy, and Sangareddy districts are also significant. In some cases, discrepancies in individual passbooks reach up to 5 acres.
Officials are facing challenges in verifying records and recovering excess land registered. Many landowners are resisting correction efforts, further complicating the process. The slow verification process, coupled with the resistance from landowners, is creating a significant hurdle for the government’s efforts to rectify the land records. The government aims to complete this rectification process and address the ongoing farmer disputes.
