**Silchar, Assam –** A 30-year-old woman is fighting for her life after she was allegedly raped and attacked with acid in her home in Cachar district, Assam, on January 22nd. The horrifying incident occurred in the presence of her two children.
Police report that the accused, a 28-year-old neighbor, had earlier engaged in a verbal argument with the victim. Hours later, he forced his way into her home while her husband was absent. Upon returning, the husband found his wife bound and severely injured with an acid-like substance on her body.
The victim was immediately transported to Silchar Medical College and Hospital where she remains in critical condition. The accused is currently at large, and police have launched a manhunt.
The victim’s husband has filed a police report alleging sexual assault. Authorities are awaiting medical reports to confirm the rape allegation, but the severity of her injuries and the circumstances of the attack strongly suggest the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
