**Cape Canaveral, FL** – SpaceX successfully launched the SpainSat NG-1 satellite aboard a Falcon 9 rocket from Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A at 8:34 PM ET tonight. This mission marks the 21st and final flight for the Falcon 9 first-stage booster, which was not recovered due to the high energy requirements of reaching the satellite’s geosynchronous transfer orbit.
The SpainSat NG-1, a collaboration between Hisdesat and the European Space Agency (ESA), will provide X and military Ka-band communication services over Europe, Africa, and the Americas for European government and military applications. Hisdesat CEO Miguel Ángel García Primo highlighted the satellite’s significance as an international provider of these crucial services.
Launch conditions were favorable, with the 45th Weather Squadron predicting a 95% chance of success. SpaceX’s live stream captured the launch, showcasing a successful liftoff and initial trajectory towards the east. This launch is the first of two planned for Hisdesat, with both satellites built by Airbus Space.
In other space news, NASA and SpaceX are working to return Crew-9 astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore as soon as possible, following recent social media comments from Elon Musk and President Trump. Meanwhile, a planned spacewalk for Crew-9 is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
