Thu Jan 30 15:32:46 IST 2025: ## Deadly Drone Attacks Rock Ukraine as Russia Launches 81 Drones
**Sumy, Ukraine** – A devastating overnight barrage of Russian drones has killed at least four people and injured nine others, including a child, in northeastern Ukraine. The Ukrainian military reported that Russia launched 81 drones in total, with 37 successfully intercepted by Ukrainian air defenses. The attacks targeted several regions, causing widespread damage to infrastructure and civilian property.
The most significant casualties occurred in Sumy, where an apartment building was struck, leaving five apartments and over 20 cars damaged. Sumy Governor Volodymyr Artyukh shared harrowing video footage of the aftermath, showing emergency crews sifting through rubble. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack as a “terrible Russian crime” and called for continued international pressure on Russia.
While the Ukrainian military stated that 39 drones failed to reach their targets, the fate of the remaining five remains unclear. Attacks also targeted the port city of Izmail in the Odesa region, damaging a grain warehouse, a hospital, and residential buildings. Near Kyiv, further drone interceptions were reported.
These attacks follow a recent Ukrainian drone strike in western Russia that resulted in casualties, fueling the escalating cycle of violence between the two nations. Russia’s defense ministry claimed to have intercepted 104 Ukrainian drones over Kursk and Bryansk regions.
The intensified attacks come as the war nears its third anniversary on February 24th, highlighting the ongoing conflict’s devastating impact on Ukrainian civilians.
