Thu Jan 30 18:37:41 IST 2025: ## Kerala Lottery Winner’s Complaint Against Bank Dismissed
**Kochi, January 30, 2025** – The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission dismissed a complaint filed by K. Asokan, a lottery winner, against the Indian Overseas Bank. Asokan claimed the bank’s delay in forwarding his winning lottery ticket resulted in a delayed payout.
Asokan, who won ₹10 lakh in the 2020 Christmas-New Year bumper lottery, alleged the bank took 151 days to send his ticket to the Kerala Lotteries Directorate. He sought ₹5 lakh in compensation for the alleged mental distress.
The bank attributed the delay to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns and incomplete documentation provided by Asokan. The Commission, in its order dated January 28th, 2025, sided with the bank, stating there was no deficiency in service. They noted that the Lottery Directorate disbursed the remaining prize money (₹6.3 lakh after deductions) within 30 days of receiving complete documentation. The bank had previously credited Asokan with ₹10,000 following a Banking Ombudsman directive.
