Thu Jan 30 17:52:23 UTC 2025: **Villagers Block Road in Protest Over Water Shortage**

TIRUPATTUR, January 30, 2025 – Residents of Kondakithapalli village, near Natrampalli, blocked the Natrampalli Main Road on Thursday, protesting the irregular water supply to their village. Around 3,500 families in the village rely on water supplied by the panchayat, as depleted water bodies have dried up borewells.

The protest, involving residents from six hamlets, particularly affected those in Malleripatti, where approximately 250 families depend entirely on the panchayat for water. The lack of consistent water supply has forced villagers to travel up to 10 km to fetch water from neighboring towns.

Following the road blockade, police and revenue officials intervened and calmed the protestors after assurances of restored water supply. Authorities promised to ensure regular water delivery and address the underlying infrastructure issues.

The panchayat admits a daily requirement of 2.5 lakh liters of water, sourced from several borewells. A recent malfunction of a key borewell in Malleripatti, attributed to low groundwater levels, exacerbated the problem. The rocky terrain is hindering efforts to find suitable locations for a new borewell. In the interim, water tankers will be used to supply water to affected hamlets.
