Thu Jan 30 12:59:23 UTC 2025: ## Uber’s Pet Taxi Service Faces Backlash After Steep Pricing and Driver Refusal

**New Delhi:** Ride-hailing giant Uber is facing criticism following a viral social media post detailing a negative experience with its pet taxi service. The post, re-shared by actress Swastika Mukherjee, highlights the complaint of Rakshita Singh, founder of the Delhi-based animal NGO Dular Amaanat Foundation.

Singh alleges that she was initially refused transport by a regular Uber driver when attempting to take her sick puppy to a veterinarian. Despite explaining the medical emergency, the driver reportedly refused service, stating that the vehicle was only for human passengers. He directed her to book an Uber pet taxi instead.

Subsequently, Singh booked a pet taxi and was shocked by the fare. The 5-kilometer ride cost Rs 487, significantly more than the Rs 150 she would have paid for a standard Uber ride. Singh questioned the exorbitant pricing and the quality of service offered by Uber’s pet taxis, highlighting a lack of transparency regarding amenities and creature comforts for animals.

The post has sparked outrage online, with many users criticizing Uber’s pricing disparity and the driver’s lack of compassion. NDTV has contacted Uber for comment but is yet to receive a response. The company has yet to publicly address the incident or the concerns raised about its pet taxi service.
