Thu Jan 30 15:51:27 IST 2025: ## Trump Wins $25 Million Settlement from Meta in Censorship Case

**Washington, D.C. –** Former President Donald Trump has secured a $25 million settlement from Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, ending a lawsuit stemming from the suspension of his accounts following the January 6th, 2021, Capitol attack. The settlement, viewed as a significant victory for Trump, comes amidst a noticeable shift in Meta’s relationship with the former president and his administration.

According to Meta, $22 million of the settlement will fund Trump’s presidential library, with the remaining funds allocated to legal fees and other claimants. The lawsuit, filed in July 2021, alleged that Meta unlawfully silenced conservative viewpoints by suspending Trump’s accounts after his speech inciting the Capitol riot.

The settlement follows a series of conciliatory moves by Meta towards Trump. This includes Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s attendance at Trump’s recent inauguration, a rollback of fact-checking and content moderation policies, the halting of diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, and the appointment of prominent Republicans to key positions within the company. Furthermore, Meta made a $1 million contribution to Trump’s inaugural fund last December.

This apparent rapprochement between Trump and Meta comes as the social media giant reported a 59 percent surge in net income to $62.36 billion in 2024. The settlement marks a significant turning point in the ongoing debate surrounding censorship and social media platforms’ responsibility in managing political discourse.
