**New Delhi, January 30** – India observed the 77th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today, with leaders across the political spectrum paying homage to the Father of the Nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes, posting on X (formerly Twitter), “Tributes to revered Bapu on his Punya Tithi. His ideals continue to inspire us in building a developed India.” He also remembered those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
Home Minister Amit Shah lauded Gandhi’s role in popularizing Indian values of truth, non-violence, and resistance to injustice globally. He emphasized the continued relevance of Gandhi’s vision for cleanliness, self-reliance, and empowering rural India.
Leaders from the Congress and BJP also offered their respects. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted Gandhi’s principles of truth, non-violence, and universal brotherhood, while BJP President J.P. Nadda cited Gandhi’s ideals of self-reliance (Swadeshi) as inspiration for building a self-reliant and developed India.
Gandhi’s assassination on January 30, 1948, by Nathuram Godse, remains a somber reminder of his martyrdom. However, his legacy of peace, love, and equality continues to inspire people worldwide, underscoring the enduring relevance of his philosophy and struggle for independence. Several other Union Ministers, including Nitin Gadkari and Kiren Rijiju, also joined in paying their respects.
