Thu Jan 30 14:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Lions Hire John Morton as New Offensive Coordinator

**DETROIT, MI (CBS Detroit) –** The Detroit Lions have appointed John Morton as their new offensive coordinator, the team announced Tuesday. Morton, a Michigan native, previously worked with Lions head coach Dan Campbell in 2022 and most recently served as the Denver Broncos’ passing game assistant. He replaces Ben Johnson, who left to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears.

This marks another significant coaching change for the Lions, who also recently promoted Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator following Aaron Glenn’s departure to the New York Jets.

Morton boasts an extensive NFL coaching background, including previous stints as offensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets, as well as a position at the University of Southern California. His experience spans various roles, from offensive coordinator to wide receivers coach.

Despite a strong 15-2 regular season, the Lions’ playoff run ended in the Divisional Round with a loss to the Washington Commanders. Head Coach Dan Campbell hopes that Morton’s expertise, alongside Sheppard’s leadership on defense, will propel the team to further success in the upcoming season.
