**Kozhikode, January 30, 2025** – The Kozhikode Corporation has launched an aggressive campaign to recover ₹88 crore in outstanding property taxes by the end of the current financial year. The drive aims to collect approximately ₹45 crore in penalties for overdue payments from April 2024 to March 2025, in addition to ₹43 crore in taxes owed for the same period.
The city boasts 2.64 lakh buildings, some with outstanding tax payments exceeding ₹5 lakh. The Corporation is directly contacting owners, including those residing abroad, to settle their dues. The penalty for late payment increases by 2% monthly.
While notices have been issued, concerns have been raised about notices being sent to ineligible individuals, such as families of soldiers and freedom fighters. Deputy Mayor C.P. Musafar Ahamed assured that these issues would be addressed at a February adalat.
To facilitate payment, the Corporation will establish a help desk. Taxpayers can pay online via the Ksmart application or in person at the Corporation office. The Corporation aims to collect at least 70% of the outstanding dues by the end of the financial year.
