Wed Jan 29 19:02:41 UTC 2025: ## Kolathur Residents Urge CM Stalin to Address Infrastructure Concerns Ahead of Visit

**Chennai, January 30, 2025** – Residents of Kolathur constituency have appealed to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to address deteriorating infrastructure in several areas before his anticipated visit. Their concerns come as the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) embarks on a ₹13.34 crore initiative to upgrade infrastructure in Wards 66, 68, and 70, ahead of the CM’s visit.

The GCC’s planned improvements include road repairs, footpath upgrades, playfield renovations, and the installation of rainwater harvesting structures. However, residents claim these improvements are insufficient to address long-standing problems.

Complaints include poorly maintained roads, particularly those damaged by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB), inadequate street lighting, uneven manholes posing safety risks, and the persistent problem of stray dogs. Residents specifically highlighted issues in Valarmathi Nagar, areas behind Sundaram Nagar, and Thirupathi Nagar, where potholes hinder school vans and water stagnation causes road damage.

V. Purushothaman, a Kolathur resident, emphasized the need for comprehensive road repairs and improved street lighting, while V. Udayakumar highlighted the danger posed by stray dogs and reported incidents of anti-social activities.

Deputy Mayor M. Magesh Kumaar responded that the issues raised would be addressed by the concerned ward engineers and sanitary inspectors. He also stated that efforts to sterilize stray dogs would be intensified. The upcoming GCC upgrades, while significant, appear to be insufficient to alleviate the concerns of Kolathur residents, who hope the CM’s visit will prompt more substantial and lasting improvements.
