Thu Jan 30 23:01:52 IST 2025: ## Inglis Blasts Fastest Australian Test Century on Debut

**Galle, Sri Lanka:** Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis etched his name in the history books on Thursday, smashing the fastest ever Test century by an Australian on debut. His electrifying 90-ball innings, featuring 10 fours and a six, propelled Australia to a commanding position in the first Test against Sri Lanka.

Inglis, already a seasoned player in limited-overs cricket, came to the crease at number five and immediately attacked the Sri Lankan spinners. He reached his fifty in just 51 balls and continued his blistering assault, surpassing Shikhar Dhawan’s previous record for the fastest Test century on debut (87 balls). Inglis’s 102 runs came at a phenomenal strike rate of 108.51, also the highest ever for a Test debutant.

Australia, having won the toss and opted to bat, dominated the first two days of play. Usman Khawaja scored a double century (232), while Steve Smith reached 10,000 Test runs and also scored a century (141). Further contributions from Travis Head (57) and Alex Carey (46*) helped Australia declare their innings at a massive 654/6 – their highest-ever score in Asia.

Sri Lanka, in reply, ended day two at 44/3, facing a daunting task to overcome Australia’s substantial lead. The match continues.
