**Sultanpur, January 30, 2025** – Proceedings in a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were adjourned on Thursday after his lawyer, Kashi Prasad Shukla, fell ill. The case, filed by BJP leader Vijay Mishra in 2018, stems from allegedly derogatory remarks made by Mr. Gandhi during the Karnataka elections.
Special Judge Shubham Verma accepted a medical certificate submitted by Mr. Shukla and rescheduled the hearing for February 11. Mr. Mishra’s advocate, Santosh Kumar Pandey, confirmed the adjournment.
The case has a history of delays. A warrant was issued for Mr. Gandhi’s arrest in December 2023 after he failed to appear in court. He subsequently surrendered, recorded his statement in July 2024, and was granted bail. Mr. Gandhi has consistently claimed the case is politically motivated.
