**Chennai, January 30, 2025** – Chennai Customs officials thwarted a major drug smuggling attempt on January 26th, arresting three passengers who attempted to smuggle 23.48 kg of hydroponic ganja into the country. The ganja, concealed within a package of frozen fruit, has an estimated street value of Rs 23.5 crore.
The three passengers, a woman and two men from the same family, arrived at Chennai airport from Bangkok. Acting on prior intelligence, customs officials intercepted them and discovered the illicit cargo during a baggage check.
The suspects have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and remanded to judicial custody. The successful seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of Chennai Customs to combat drug trafficking.
