
Thu Jan 30 19:40:41 IST 2025: ## Son of Former MP Deputy CM Sentenced to Life for Triple Murder
**Korba, Chhattisgarh –** Harbhajan Singh Kanwar, son of late Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pyarelal Kanwar, has been sentenced to life imprisonment along with four others for the brutal murder of his brother, sister-in-law, and niece in 2021. The Raipura court in Korba found Harbhajan guilty of orchestrating the killings over a property dispute.
The victims, Harish Kanwar (40), his wife Sumitra (35), and their four-year-old daughter Yashika, were attacked with sharp weapons at their home in Bhaisma village on April 21, 2021. Harbhajan’s wife, Dhankunwar; his brother-in-law, Parmeshwar Kanwar; and two others, Ramprasad Mannewar and Surendra Singh Kanwar, were also convicted and given life sentences.
According to Additional Public Prosecutor Krishna Kumar Dwivedi, the court established that Parmeshwar, along with two accomplices, carried out the murders after Harbhajan, his wife, and daughters had left the house. Crucial testimony came from Janki Bai, the mother of both Harish and Harbhajan, who survived the attack.
The accused were found guilty under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder, criminal conspiracy, and common intention. Pyarelal Kanwar, a Congress politician, served as Deputy Chief Minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh from 1993 to 1998. He died in 2011.
