Thu Jan 30 15:52:27 UTC 2025: ## Dubai Airport Sets New World Record for International Passengers
**Dubai, UAE (January 30, 2025)** – Dubai International Airport (DXB) has announced a new world record for international passenger traffic, with 92.3 million passengers passing through its terminals in 2024. This surpasses the previous record set in 2018 and marks a significant recovery from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The surge in passenger numbers solidifies Dubai’s position as the world’s busiest airport for international travel. India topped the list of origin countries, with 12 million passengers arriving in Dubai. Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom followed with 7.6 million and 6.2 million passengers, respectively.
Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths attributed the success to DXB’s efficient operations despite its limited geographical footprint. He highlighted that the airport has served over 700 million passengers in the last decade.
The remarkable growth coincides with a real estate boom and record tourism numbers in Dubai. However, the city is now facing challenges related to increasing traffic and costs.
To accommodate future growth, Dubai plans to shift operations to the larger Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) by 2032. A massive $35 billion upgrade is underway at DWC, which will feature five parallel runways and 400 aircraft gates. The new airport design aims to streamline passenger flow through the use of technology like facial recognition, creating a more efficient and passenger-friendly experience.
While acknowledging the UK government’s recent approval for a third runway at London’s Heathrow Airport, Griffiths expressed confidence that Dubai will retain its leading position in international air travel.
